Harm Reduction

  • Start low, go slow: Take a small amount and wait until you can feel the effects before taking more/anything else. MXE is reported to be considerably more potent than ketamine by weight, so a dose that feels normal for ketamine can be a strong dose of MXE. Use much smaller amounts than you would with ketamine and wait to feel the effects before considering more. The recommended way to administer the drug is by sniffing or ‘bombing’ it orally. Do not inject as there is a far greater risk of overdose as well as the risk of blood-borne-viruses.
  • Try not to use alone: If something goes wrong, someone is there to get help
  • Be careful mixing: Mixing MXE with other depressants (alcohol, benzos, opiods, GHB) increases overdose risk. Avoid if you can, otherwise take less of each, as they can increase the effects and risks
  • Test your stuff: MXE is less common than ketamine and reportedly stronger and miss sells have been reported. You can’t see this by eye. Find out how to send a sample to WEDINOS for testing here: https://www.wedinos.wales or pick up some test strips at our Harm Reduction Hub
  • It’s also possible to become psychologically dependent on the drug (feeling like you need it all the time). If you think this is happening, see your doctor as soon as possible, but don’t suddenly stop taking it.
